Winter Essentials for your Dog

Updated: Feb 15, 2023

Winter is finally here, which means embracing the cold weather, potential snow and of course, the holiday season! While you change your wardrobe and adjust your life around the coldest season make sure you don’t forget about your dog! Just like humans, dogs have a unique set of winter needs, so make sure you're prepared for the cold months ahead. Most importantly, get excited for all of the fun winter things you and your dog can do together!

Here are our Top Ten Winter Essentials, all of which can be found on Amazon:

1. Snow Shoes

Snow shoes are important to protect your dog’s paws, especially if you live in an area that gets a lot of snow. They prevent ice and salt from getting stuck in between your dog’s paws, which can be harmful, and also help to keep them warm.

2. Winter Coat

A cute vest can be an important addition to your dog’s winter wardrobe. Don’t assume that just because your dog is furry that it is always warm. Small dogs especially oftentimes have a hard time staying warm, so help them out by getting them a cute coat for your walks together. This one comes in a bunch of different sizes and colors, so pick one that best matches your dog’s personality!

3. Plush Dog Bed

There is nothing better than climbing into a warm and fuzzy bed after being out in the cold. Help your dog get cozy after your winter walks by getting them a fluffy dog bed! Amazon has a bunch of cute options, this best seller is highly rated by reviewers.

4. Heating Pad

Upgrade that plush dog bed to this large heating pad if you really want to pamper your pet! This can also help warm your dog up after playing outside especially if they have trouble staying warm. This mat comes with a chew resistant cord and six adjustable heat settings.

5. Holiday Dog Toys

December is all about the holiday season, be sure you include your dog! No matter what holiday you and your family celebrate, Amazon has a variety of toys for your pet. We love this cute and inexpensive Hanukkah themed pack.

6. Paw Balm

During winter time we need to give extra love to our chapped skin, and just like us, so do dogs! Paw balm acts a barrier between your dog’s paws and rough surfaces like snow or salt. It's also a good alternative to shoes if your dog is being difficult. Natural Dog Company PawTection Dog Paw Balm comes in a cheaper trial size stick or a $17 two ounce stick, so if your dog likes it go for the bigger size!

7. Christmas Hat

If you're going to get your dog to wear one thing this year, make it this! It's just too cute and practical not to give it a try! Not only will it keep their ears warm on those extra cold days, it gets bonus points for providing a fun photo opportunity!

8. Nose and Paw Lotion

The winter weather makes human skin dry and everyone stocks up on lotion for dry hands. Our pups experience the same dry skin at this time of year. This all-natural lotion is a great moisturizer to relieve your dog’s dry nose and rough paws during the cold season.

9. Pet Safe Ice Melt

Whether it is icy outside or a snowstorm, ice melt is definitely a winter essential. Safe Paw, Child Plant Dog Paw & Pet Safe Ice Melt is a non toxic, safe way to treat the ice. It's fast acting and won't damage concrete. This is a must have at Cream Puff Labradoodles!

10. Trimmer

In winter, a trimmer will help keep your fur baby’s paws comfortable through the messy winter months. To help prevent ice buildup, trim between their pads and you will make walks more pleasant.
